Arcane Gem Socketing

Cost of Sockets
Anyone with the ability to craft a specific item may also install sockets during the initial creation. After an item is created sockets may be added but the cost increases by 50%. Armor may be crafted piecemeal to add sockets.

When hiring a professional to craft your item you may add a lesser socket for 800 gold pieces per and a greater socket for 1400 gold pieces per. When crafting an item yourself you may add a lesser socket for 400 gold pieces per and a greater socket for 700 gold pieces per. Each socket increases the time to craft by one day. A socket grants no bonuses until an arcane gem is installed.

*Any remaining items (Head/Body/Bags/Figurines/Etc) will be given the lesser/greater slot amounts dependent on the physical description of the object. IE if a player wants to craft a fabulous purple cloak with a silver clasp I will come up with the limitation on gem slots on the fly. Players are always limited to one item per item slot, as outlined hereI am definitely interested in some player input for fun ways to bedazzle their gear...within reason.

Socket Limitations
Items have a limit to how much power they may harness from arcane gemstones, this does not apply to the level of the arcane gemstone but merely the amount of arcane gemstones. After research and testing it is commonly known to those with knowledge in arcane gemstones that each item has the limitations outlined below. Though it has not been thoroughly tested rare metals and woods are theorized to allow more power before breaking.

Armor
When it comes to limitations armor is considered as piecemeal, that is there are limitations per breatsplate / gauntlet / etc. A player can only ever wear 1 set of boots, that is the armor boots do not stack with the feet item slot, as seen here.

Gauntlet 1 : 1 Lesser or 1 Greater Socket
Gauntlet 2 : 1 Lesser or 1 Greater Socket

Shoulder Guard 1 : 1 Lesser Socket
Shoulder Guard 2 : 1 Lesser Socket

Boot 1 : 1 Lesser Socket
Boot 2 : 1 Lesser Socket

Breastplate : 1 Lesser or 1 Greater Socket

Shield : 3 Lesser Sockets, 1 Greater Socket

Weapons
Weapons vary in many ways, but all weapons come down to it's size and the ability for a creature to wield it in 2 hands, 1 hand or a light weapon. Ranged weapons follow these same rules; where a longbow is 2 hands, while a sling is one handed. Ammunition items have gems attached to their container which imbues its contents for a short amount of time. Gems can be placed anywhere from the head of a mace to a pommel of a sword to the grip of a morning star.

1 Handed Light Weapon : 2 Lesser Sockets, 1 Greater Socket

1 Handed Weapon : 3 Lesser Sockets, 1 Greater Socket

2 Handed Weapon : 5 Lesser Sockets, 1 Greater Socket

Ammunition : 2 Lesser Sockets, 1 Greater Socket

Accessories
Accessories are rings/amulets/etc which are commonly worn by adventurers. For any out of the ordinary, player created items limitations will be made on the fly.

Ring 1 : 1 Lesser or 1 Greater Socket
Ring 2 : 1 Lesser or 1 Greater Socket

Belt : 3 Lesser, 1 Greater Socket

Amulet or Necklace : 3 Lesser, 1 Greater Socket

Rod : 1 Lesser or 1 Greater Socket
*Rod is a base item which provides the same kind of benefits as wands/staves/rods provided in Pathfinder standard, the function depends on the currently installed gemstone.*
